Drag and drop is the FASTEST, MOST EFFICIENT & INTUITIVE way to REORGANIZE TASKS, “Outliner” style, in seconds, visually. When you guys understand this and focus on getting that feature available, Informant will be THE PERFECT App, but right now, reordering tasks is a real pain, it is time consuming. I would spend more time trying to reorganize my hundreds of tasks rather than completing them. Not efficient. As an example, it only takes 1 second to drag a task exactly where you want it, in between 2 sub-tasks for example, no matter what method (GTD, Franklin-Covey) Rather than having to edit each task individually and figure out the numbering or enter th date, etc. Now try to do this using the current system, for dozens or hundreds of tasks, good luck! You spend more time doing that than actually completing the tasks! I’ve been a Pocket Informant user for a decade, but I have always needed another simpler yet powerful drag-and-drop-style organizing Outliner app, only because it is so much faster, much easier keep the tasks organized, but please get it right: 1) make it scroll fast when dragging to the bottom or top of the screen, so it doesn’t take forever to drag a task to the top or bottom when one has hundreds of tasks 2) make it easy to switch a task from sub to parent and vice-versa, like swipe left or right or a little arrow. Dragging a task in between 2 subtask should make it automatically a sub task too. Selecting multiple tasks to drag and drop together would be great. Imagine doing it for many dozens of tasks, with the current system, it would take for ever! Best example I can think of is Cloud Outliner or Carbonfin Outliner iOS apps, or even Toodledo’s Outliner system. It is as simple as it gets, but they got it right. Combine that way of hierarchical drag-and-drop task organizing with the features of Informant and you get the most powerful calendar-task app in the world!

If using Franklln Covey method, then by moving the tasks around (drag and drop), it would also change the order of the ABC 123.

I think it would be most important for focus view. Respectfully, It kind of defeats the purpose of “focus” view if you can’t tell it how to focus.

        Thank for this great product

I was wondering if we could drag and drop tasks between days in the weekview or in any other section?
It’s really frustrating changing the tasks’ dates every time we are to reschedule our tasks.

        Hows the votes stacking up???
Add the 300 votes from the same PI4 suggestion and the 111 votes from other similar requests and it should be looking quite healthy to get it considered?

I have waited a long time for this function. For me this would make informant5 "perfect" for my organisation needs.

A task database SHOULD be nothing more than a fancy spreadsheet! Being able to sort by any column of that table SHOULD be easy to implement if there was some initial thought process put into the design prior to development. KISS principle here. I hope you didn't try and re-invent the wheel during concept stage!
Drag and drop tasks is seriously the only thing stopping me taking on a subscription!

Please add these votes to the 'drag and drop' idea. Fundamentally they are very close to being the same thing. 'Free' drag and drop should be how apps first start and additional functions added afterwards. The whole concept of alphabetical ONLY sorting is SO dated and not in touch with today's working environments.

To be specific, I think adding TAGS to the inbuilt sorting criteria as the 2nd last criteria (before Alphanumeric) would be hugely useful (so it becomes something like Due/Completed Date, Priority, Tag, Alphanumeric). This would ensure common tags (of the same priority) are seen together. (If multiple tags exist, just the first tag is used, like how colour is determined, if based on tag). So to be clear, my votes here are for this enhanced criteria based approach, not the manual sort approach (which I can see may not be practical).

PLEASE add TAGS as one if the sorting criteria. This is an important one for me (for the Focus view).

clearly 300 requests for manual task sort in PI4 wasn't enough to push it through!!
surely this is a fundamental requirement of ANY PIM.

Really, really need it! I've been struggling to make PI a suitable replacement for the now-defunct Franklin Covey Outlook tasks add-in. PI already allows the Franklin priorities (A1, etc.) in lieu of simple alphabetical sort. The BIGGEST missing piece is the ability to review your prioritized task list and quickly reorder items in the list by simply dragging. Of course, I'm aware that with today's PI functionality I could open each task, surf to the priority wheels and change its priority, then save; then notice that every subsequent task in the list needs to be adjusted manually as well...

I've been hoping for this for some time. This suggestion got 300 votes on the previous list of suggestions prior to o the release of informant 5.

In another thread, someone suggested the focus view as the place for manual sorting. That makes sense to me. Maybe users can have a setting for focus view: use criteria or use manual sort.

      • boydston commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

"Why not just let users drag and drop tasks in the order they want them."

Programmatically, manually sorting is fundamentally different than robust, criteria-based sort options. You might notice that apps with manual sorting do not have many other sorting options. And the criteria-based options are usually a "reorder" option, not a "fixed" sort option.

      • boydston commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Yes, this would be amazing. Even if the functionality were regulated to a particular view, which may be necessary since the robustness of PI filter/sorting is based on criteria. In other words, if it is not possible to integrate manual sorting with criteria sorting (which I doubt it is), provide a "special" list that only sorts manually. Or something like that...

This should be combined with "Drag and drop tasks in Focus view in order you want to complete them" below which has 19 votes giving this feature request 58 votes.
